A colourful 250x250mm soft cover picture book, ‘Together We Set The World On Fire’ features 17 local fire stories written and illustrated by Adie McDermott, together with 100+ community members from across the Wimmera, a remote area in regional Victoria, Australia. ISBN: 978-0-9756634-1-7.
From the publisher: You could argue (and I admit many do) that community, connection and having a sense of belonging are the most important things in life after food, water and shelter. In this book project, the common theme FIRE, story telling and different forms of creative self-expression bought over 100 Wimmera community members, young and old(er) together. Working with Adie McDermott as part of Horsham’s Art Is Festival 2023 (lead by Alistair Shaw), and Rachel Farran a teacher at St Malachy’s School in Edenhope, the participants were encouraged to express and share something unique about themselves that would become part of the book.
This printed book shares the beautiful art made and stories collected, but….it is also an innovative way to bring people of all ages, backgrounds, cultures and abilities together, encourage individual self-acceptance, self-expression and connection to the community, and hopefully as more people read it…..encourage the acceptance of other people’s differences.
